What is a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV)?

A Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) is a Battery Electric Vehicle that has a top speed of 25mph (40kph) and a maximum loaded weight of 3,000 lbs (1361kg). NEV is a federally approved street-legal classification that falls under the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) classification for Low-Speed Vehicles (LSV) and can be legally driven on most public roads with posted speed limits of 35mph (56kph) or in some states 45mph (72kph).

The CRU not only meets the US Federal safety standards (FMVSS 500) but also fully complies with the more stringent automotive SAE J2358 standard with the inclusion of Seat Belt Anchorage requirements and Occupant Protective Structure for roll-over protection.

CRU has an onboard charger and is charged using a Club Car-supplied AC cord plugged into a 110V to 120V electrical outlet. No special car charging station or outlet is needed and full charge is reached in 6-14 hours depending on the depth of battery discharge. On a full charge, your average range is 15-20 miles and is heavily dependent on terrain and payload.

Conception to Reality

This new vehicle started with the question, “If Club Car were to create a vehicle from the ground up specifically for consumer use, what would it be?”

After a worldwide search for the best fit to help with conceptualization and industrial design, BMW Designworks was chosen as their partner. Through many rounds of research and iteration, this vehicle was designed from the inside out to create the exact experience consumers desired.

Club Car has taken the concept and delivered a fully capable engineered vehicle that stays true to the initial ideas that wowed their research participants and will now delight customers. CRU has all of the hallmarks of safety and quality that you have come to expect from Club Car.
